The Direction You Haven’t Questioned Because Everything’s Working

15 min Every Wednesday Amplify and Act

What This Episode Is About

When did you last ask whether this is still the business you want to be running, not just whether it’s running? The last few episodes were about decisions you’re avoiding: a conversation, a price, a person. This week is different. This is the decision nobody forces you to make, because everything’s working. In this Direction episode, Meagan explains why a business that works can still be pointed the wrong way, what that drift is costing you, and walks through three moves (Name what you’ve outgrown, Price the drift, Make the call) plus a 48-hour exercise.

Key Takeaways

  • A business that works can still be pointed the wrong way. Nothing is broken, so nothing forces the question.
  • Ask one question: if you were starting today, what would you not build? The first answer that comes up is usually true.
  • Staying the course isn’t free. Every quarter on the wrong path costs you the outcome you’re not getting yet.
  • There are three honest calls: commit, adjust, or end. Whichever you pick, make it a decision with a date, not a mood.

Three Moves: Name What You’ve Outgrown, Price the Drift, Make the Call

This isn’t about changing everything. It’s about noticing where you’re running on momentum, and deciding on purpose.

Name What You’ve Outgrown

Working is not the same as right. Look for the places you’re running on momentum: a service you’d drop if it weren’t already sold, a client type that wears you down, a role you took on in year one and never handed off. Ask: if I were starting today, what would I not build? Write down the first thing that comes up.

Price the Drift

Put a number on one year. The revenue from the offer you’re not building, the hours spent on work you’d drop, the client you could be serving instead. You don’t need precision. You need to see that “everything’s working” has a price, and that the longer the drift runs, the more of the business gets built on top of it.

Make the Call

Choose one: commit (you looked at it, this is the direction, so stop second-guessing it), adjust (keep the business, change one thing, with a date), or end (retire the offer, client type, or line of work that no longer fits). Not every look at your direction ends in a change.

The Key Insight

The decision wasn’t whether the business works. It was whether it’s pointed where you want to go.

Your Action This Week: The 48-Hour Exercise

Write four things: what you’ve outgrown, what one more year of it costs you, which of the three calls you’re making, and the date you’ll act. Then, within 48 hours, take the first step or put it on your calendar with a real date and time. One call. Starting is the decision.
