What This Episode Is About

Last week we named the boundary you keep avoiding. This week we’re looking at the other side of that same coin: the new idea, service, or offer you keep meaning to launch — and haven’t. In this episode, Meagan breaks down why “not the right time” is almost never the real reason, names the three fears actually driving the delay, and gives a simple framework for testing the idea small instead of waiting to feel ready.

Key Takeaways

  • “Not the right time” is a cover story — the real reason is almost always a specific fear about a specific outcome

  • The three fears usually underneath it: looking foolish, wasting time or money, or disrupting what’s already working

  • A test plan beats a launch plan: one small action, in front of one real person, within seven days

  • Confidence is downstream of proof, not a precondition for starting — this closes the Leadership & Capacity series; next up: leading vs. managing

Naming the Fear, Building the Plan

Fear of launching isn’t a courage problem — it’s a specificity problem. Until you name the actual fear, you can’t plan around it.

Name the Real Fear

“Not the right time” is a cover story, almost never the truth. Underneath it is usually one of three things: looking foolish in front of people who know you, wasting time or money on something that doesn’t work, or disrupting what’s already working and paying the bills.

Build a Test Plan, Not a Launch Plan

A launch plan asks for a six-month rollout, a budget, and certainty — that’s exactly why it never starts. A test plan asks for one small action, in front of one real person or a handful of real customers, within seven days. The test should be small enough that skipping it would feel a little embarrassing, and cheap enough that being wrong costs almost nothing.

The Key Insight

You don’t need to feel ready. You need one small test and seven days. Confidence is downstream of proof, not a precondition for starting — it shows up after, not before, every time.

Your Action This Week

Write down the one idea you’ve been circling, and one small test you could run in the next seven days — in front of one real person, cheap enough that being wrong barely costs you anything. Then put a date on your calendar for when you’ll do it. Not someday. This week.
